Introduction
The Consortium of Academic and Research
Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH) is a group consisting of academic and
research libraries in Ghana. It was established on 17th
August 2004. The main focus of CARLIGH is to join efforts of these
libraries to have maximum use of resources and other facilities. The
links on this page will lead you into pages of participating
institutions.
In
2003, the five Public Universities (University of Ghana, Legon, Accra,
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape
Coast, Cape Coast, University for Development Studies, Tamale,
University of Education, Winneba and INSTI which had a loose
cooperative arrangement under an inter library lending and document
delivery project, supported by DANIDA, decided to form a consortium
after the project ended.
To this end, a brainstorming workshop was organised under the auspices of the Committee of University Librarians
and Deputies (CULD) to decide on how to move forward. Another Workshop
in early 2004 on Consortium building supported by elfL-net paved the way
for a smooth beginning. Currently CARLIGH has fourteen (14) members,
six (6) public universities, five (5) private universities, two (2) Research Institutes and a
Specialist training institution. These institutions have the requisite
infrastructure and technical support to benefit from the facilities that
the group will provide. |
